About Us

There has been a pub on this site, previously known as the Wheatsheaf, now know as the March Hare since 1840.  This means that the March Hare has been in Dunton for 179 years.  This is something Duntonians should be proud of because they still have a pub.  Dependent on where you get your information from, there are still approximately four pubs closing every week.

The March Hare, a traditional real ale community pub, is now under the stewardship of John and Janice Pritchett who rescued the pub from near dereliction in 2010 and have been slowly renovating the pub, which is ever ongoing.

Serious about real ale?

Then join us during the 179th year at the March Hare because we too are serious about real ale.

We have been awarded East Beds CAMRA Branch Pub of the Year 2013 and East Beds CAMRA Branch Rural Pub of the Year 2015 and again in 2019

We established The March Hare as a true community pub offering a social environment for everyone to enjoy.  Our ‘Dates for Your Diary’ shows that the March Hare is one of the places to be in Dunton and surrounding area.  Together we continue to make the March Hare a thriving community asset.

During 2015 CAMRA announced the 150 best local real ale pubs and guess what?  The March Hare, Dunton is one of the 150.  What an accolade considering there are 51,900 pubs in the UK (BBPA figures for 2014).

Since John has been caring for the real ale at the March Hare, we have had, with a few repeats of favourite beers, well over 2000 different cask ales.  Sources indicate that there are more than 15,000 different beers in this country.  Just a few more to go then!
